Histamine Sensitivity & Probiotics

If you are histamine sensitive (1), it is best to avoid the following bacterial strains, since they are histamine forming:

  • Lactobacillus buchneri (3)
  • Lactobacillus bulgaricus (2)
  • Lactobacillus casei (2)
  • Lactobacillus helveticus (3)
  • Lactobacillus hilgardii (3)
  • Lactobacillus reuteri (2)
  • Streptococcus thermophilus (3)

Instead, opt for the following strains:

  • Lactobacillus plantarum (2)
  • Bifidobacterium lactis (2)
  • Bifidobacterium infantis (2)
  • Bifidobacterium longum (2)

These strains can:

  • lower histamine levels (2)
  • reduce inflammation (2)
  • improve digestion (2)
